7.1 (1) In Ontario, everyone has the right not to be deprived, by any Act of the Legislative Assembly or by any action taken under authority of an Act of the Legislative Assembly, of the title, use, or enjoyment of real property or of any right attached to real property, or of any improvement made to or upon real property, unless made whole by means of full, just and timely financial compensation.
(2) Subsection (1) refers to any Act of the Legislative Assembly made before or after the coming into force of this section.

National Post · Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 - Federal MP Scott Reid and Ontario MPP Randy Hillier held a joint press conference on Thursday to promote the protection of a basic human right: the right to property. The two politicians will be introducing resolutions in their respective legislatures that would entrench constitutional protection to property rights in Ontario - and perhaps spark a move to enact similar protection in the rest of Canada as well.
Messrs. Reid and Hillier's effort was inspired by several recent cases, including one wellpublicized matter involving the municipality of Clarington, Ont. In 2010 the town wanted to fine a local family $50,000 for holding a weekend student retreat on their rural property; the charges were only recently dropped after the family had incurred substantial legal bills.
